25 Bible Verses for Overwhelmed Moms (When Life Feels Too Heavy)
In this post: If you’re feeling anxious or tired in motherhood, these 25 Bible verses for overwhelmed moms will encourage your heart and give you the strength to keep going!
Being a mom is the greatest blessing of my life. I always wanted to be a mom, and that dream came true when I was blessed with my two boys.
But being a mom is also so much harder than anyone ever tells you.
Because I want to be a good mom. I want to make memories for my kids, keep our home running smoothly, nurture my marriage, cook healthy meals, and most of all, teach my children to love and honor God.
And some days… it just feels like too much.
The to-do list never ends. No matter how many things I check off today, it’s full again tomorrow.

I love this life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But if I’m honest, there are moments when the weight of it all feels overwhelming.
And maybe you’ve felt that too.
We put so much pressure on ourselves as moms to get everything right. But the truth is, no one can do everything all the time.
If you’re a mom doing your best and still feeling overwhelmed, I want you to know—you are not alone. And what you’re feeling is more normal than you think.
Your Heavenly Father sees you. He knows when you’re tired, stretched thin, and running on empty—and He offers you strength for those hard days.
When everything feels loud and heavy, God’s Word gently brings us back to truth.
What To Do When You Feel Overwhelmed
Many years ago, when my husband and I were first married, he suddenly lost his job. I had just moved away from home and didn’t have a job yet.
Even though we were still in that newlywed bliss stage, we were plunged into a time of worry.
How would we pay our rent? Where could he find a new job? Could we afford groceries and our car payment?
In the middle of this stressful time, I opened our mailbox and found a mailer ad. In large, block letters, it said, “OVERWHELMED?”
Beneath it in smaller letters it read, “When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2)
I don’t remember who sent this ad. But I have never forgotten it. I hung it on my refrigerator and looked at it every day. That verse reminded me that God saw me, was with me, and would take care of me.
I have always felt that God sent me that card. He wanted me to know that I was not alone.

25 Bible Verses for When You Feel Overwhelmed
Psalm 61:2 is a powerful verse that has offered comfort to people for thousands of years. But it’s not the only verse in the Bible about being overwhelmed.
The Bible is full of encouraging Scriptures to give us strength in the hard days.
When You Feel Overwhelmed or Anxious
Some days you’re running on empty and don’t know how to keep going. Turn to these verses when you need some peace from God.
1. Psalm 61:2
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Sometimes you might feel like you’re drowning in stress or anxiety. In those times, you can go to the Lord for help. He is a rock when everything else is uncertain.
2. Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
In this verse, the word careful means worried or anxious. But God doesn’t want us to be anxious. He offers us peace beyond understanding.
How can we access this peace? With prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving.
3. 1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
As a mom, you carry so many burdens. But you don’t have to. God says you can cast it all on Him.
4. Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Sometimes, you might feel like you’re going to fall. But you can know that God will give you help and strength to do what you need to do.
5. John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
What mom isn’t looking for a little peace in her life? We look for it in many people, places, and things. But Jesus is the only One Who can give true, lasting peace.
When You Feel Physically and Emotionally Exhausted
Ever have a day when you’re running on empty and feel like you can’t take one more step?
Me too. Here are 5 verses that will help.
6. Matthew 11:28–30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus offers rest to everyone who is carrying a heavy burden. He will take it, and give His lighter yoke in return.
7. Isaiah 40:29–31
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
When you get tired and feel that you can’t take another step, allow God’s strength to lift you above your struggles. He gives rest to the weary and strength to the weak.
8. Psalm 23:1-3
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
I love the picture of the shepherd and the sheep. Jesus cares for you in the same way—guiding you, providing for you, and gently leading you to places of rest when you need it most.
You don’t have to keep pushing through on your own strength. He is your Shepherd, and He knows exactly what you need.
9. 2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
When you feel weak, that’s not a failure—it’s an opportunity for God’s strength to shine through you. You don’t have to have it all together. His grace is enough.
10. Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Motherhood can feel like a lot of unseen, repetitive work. But God sees it all. Every small act of love matters more than you know.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

14. Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
God is still working in you. You are not finished yet—and that’s a good thing. Trust His plan. It might be slow, but He is working His perfect will in your life.
15. Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
You are God’s workmanship. Not a mistake. Not failing. A work in progress, created for a purpose.

22. Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Peace doesn’t come from having everything under control—it comes from keeping your focus on God.
23. Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
This is God’s heart toward you—blessing, grace, and peace.
