Jesus’ parables teach us important lessons about how He wants us to live our lives. But one of my favorite parts about the parables is that they are great object lessons for kids.

In the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders, Jesus told His followers how important it is to build their lives on His foundation. It’s a vital lesson for all Christians to learn.

It’s also a great lesson for children! Even though they are still young, they are building habits, attitudes, and character traits that will last them for the rest of their lives.

It’s never too early for them to learn that a life built on Jesus can withstand the storms of fear, doubt, and confusion. But a life built without Jesus is like building on sand–and that life is doomed to fall.

4 Tried-and-True Tips for Teaching Bible Stories to Kids

The Bible is a powerful tool all on its own. But there are ways to make it come alive so that kids can understand and enjoy the story. Here are a few tips to help kids get the most out of the David and Goliath lesson.

  1. Teach from an open Bible. Even if you are using a printed lesson plan or visual aids as you teach the lesson of David and Goliath, keep your  Bible open in front of you.
  2. Make sure kids know it is a true story. Help your kids to understand this is a true story that really happened, and we know that because God wrote about it in His Word.
  3. Get creative! Kids love it when a teacher/parent uses different voices and fun facial expressions while reading. You don’t have to be fancy, but make it fun!

The Wise and Foolish Builders Bible Lesson

One day, Jesus gathered people around Him and told them an important story.

“There were two builders,” Jesus said. “Both wanted to build a house.”

The first builder was wise. He worked hard to build his house on solid rock. It took extra effort, but he knew the rock would keep the house strong.

The second builder was foolish. He built his house on soft sand because it was easier and faster.

After both houses were finished, dark clouds filled the sky. Rain poured down. Rivers rose. Strong winds blew against both houses.

The house built on the rock did not fall. It stayed strong because it had a solid foundation.

But the house built on the sand could not stand. It crashed down because the sand was not strong enough to hold it.

Then Jesus explained what the story meant. He said that people who hear His words and obey them are like the wise builder. Their lives are built on a strong foundation. When hard times come, they can trust God and keep standing strong.

People who hear Jesus’ words but do not obey them are like the foolish builder. Without God’s truth as their foundation, they are not prepared when life becomes difficult.

Jesus wants us to build our lives on Him by listening to His Word, trusting Him, and putting His teachings into practice every day.
