Free Halloween Bible Lessons for Kids of All Ages

Sometimes kids feel scared or anxious about Halloween, use these free Halloween Bible lessons for kids to help them be brave and trust God!

The first memory I have of Halloween involves me running from our back door to my bedroom and hiding under my bed.

Our first trick-or-treater had just knocked, and my four-year-old self was so excited to answer the door.

I don’t even remember what the costume was, only that it terrified me so much that I didn’t open the door again all night.

Some Christians celebrate Halloween as a harvest festival, or a day to dress up in fun costumes and eat candy.

But for many kids, it is a time when they see scary things. It’s the perfect opportunity to teach them lessons from God’s Word about peace and safety.

We can use this time of year to share God’s love and spread the light of Christ into dark places.

Sharing the Love of Christ on Halloween

After that scary experience, I never cared much for Halloween, and that was okay since my family never celebrated it.

So you can imagine my surprise when my own kids became fascinated by the October 31st holiday.

Even though they love when we give them Halloween candy, they hide their faces from monster, ghost, and witch costumes.

This seems like the perfect time to talk to my kids about the love of Christ. Because we abide in His love, we don’t need to be afraid.

These Halloween Bible lessons and Christian activities for kids will give you some great ideas for Halloween activities that build on our Christian faith and encourage kids to follow God bravely!

The most important thing to remember is that Halloween doesn’t have to be all about evil spirits and dark forces.

Instead, we can use it as a time to share the light of Jesus Christ with kids.

The truth is, even if you don’t celebrate Halloween with candy, trick-or-treating, or costumes, kids will surely see it everywhere.

They’re sure to ask questions, and many of them may feel afraid or anxious.

These Halloween Bible lessons for kids will help you redeem the season and use it as a means to share the Gospel with kids of all ages.

    The Pumpkin Prayer for Halloween

The pumpkin prayer is a fun Christian object lesson to use in your Sunday school lessons, children’s ministry, or homeschool group during the fall season.

Carving pumpkins is a traditional activity for many families around Halloween and during the fall season.

Say each part of this simple prayer while you’re carving a pumpkin with your kids to make the activity even more meaningful.

The pumpkin prayer and activity is perfect for a preschool lesson, but older kids may enjoy it too.

    The Pumpkin Prayer
    Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin, help me pray this prayer:
    Open my mind so that I can learn about You;
(cut  off the top of the pumpkin)
Take all my sins and forgive the wrong that I do.
    (clean out the inside)
    Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
    (cut eyes shaped like hearts)
I’m sorry for times I’ve turned up my nose at what You’ve given to me.
(cut a nose in the shape of a cross)
    Open my ears so Your word I will hear;
(cut ears shaped like a Bible)
Open my mouth to tell others You’re near.
(cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)
Let Your light shine in all I say and do!
(place candle inside and light it)

You can read each part as you’re carving, or read over it at the beginning or end.

If you’re using this lesson at home, you may want to add it to your morning basket or family devotions for a few days before or after you carve your pumpkin to help drive the message home to younger kids.

    Candy Corn Object Lesson

Another great way to talk about Halloween to younger children is to use candy corn for an object lesson!

Those little yellow-and-orange sugar treats are everywhere this time of year, so you might as well grab a bag or two for a Sunday morning or kids ministry class.

Candy corn is a great way to talk about the Trinity with preschoolers and toddlers.

Since candy corn has three colors, and is shaped like a triangle, it’s easy to explain the concept.

This short poem helps explain the lesson a little deeper:

    As there are three colors in the candy I see;
There are three persons in the Holy Trinity.
God our loving Father, Jesus, the son,
And our helper, the Holy Spirit.
All three are God, yet together they are one.

You can use a simple candy corn coloring sheet, label the parts Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and let kids color them while they eat their candy.

    The Pumpkin Parable

Another great option for talking about Halloween with kids is The Pumpkin Parable by popular author Liz Curtis Higgs.

The Pumpkin Patch Parable is the perfect storybook to share with your kids this harvest season.

This cheerful storybook is full of vibrant illustrations and will show your children how, just like a pumpkin plant growing from a small seed into a huge gourd, God’s love changes our hearts and blesses us with new life.

This simple book will turn family or Sunday School story time into a faith-growing discussion with included scriptures on each page that ties the story to biblical truths.

Kids will learn about God’s love in an engaging and relatable way as they follow the charming characters through Liz Curtis Higgs’ parable.

With each reading, your children will gain more understanding of the gospel message and be reminded of God’s great love.

The Pumpkin Patch Parable makes a delightful addition to Christian Halloween celebrations.

Tips for Teaching this Halloween Bible Lesson

If you want to make the most of this free Sunday school lesson, here are a few tips!

    Teach from an open Bible.

We always want kids to know that what we are saying to them isn’t our opinions, but the truth from God’s Word.

Even if you are using a printed lesson or visual aids as you teach, keep your Bible open in front of you.

Make sure kids know you’re telling true stories.

Halloween is a time of make-believe and pretend, but we want kids to know that the Bible is true.

As Christian parents and teachers, we should always be quick to emphasize that the Bible is not made up. It is the real story of God and His work in our lives.

Remind kids we serve the God of the Bible.

When we tell kids amazing stories about Joshua and Daniel, we need to remind them that we serve the same God who performed miracles for them.

We don’t have to be afraid because God is with us just as He was with Daniel, Joshua, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

    Get creative!

Kids love when parents/teachers use funny facial expressions and different voices during the lesson.

You don’t have to be fancy, but make it interesting!

You may also have personal anecdotes or stories you want to share. Make it personal.

Fear Not: Halloween Sunday School Lesson

All of us are afraid sometimes.

Think of the bravest person you know. Maybe it’s your dad, grandpa, or uncle.

Firefighters, police officers, and service members are all really brave, too.

Of course, we also know of many Bible stories about brave men and women like Joshua, Daniel, Esther, or David.

But no matter how brave a person is, they are afraid sometimes, too.

Just like them, you can face your fears and be bold for Jesus because you know that God is always you!

Halloween night can be a spooky time. Sometimes we see funny costumes that make us laugh, but others can be downright creepy!

Today, we’re going to learn how to be brave and not be afraid, even on the spookiest night of the year.

So gather around, and let’s dive into this exciting adventure together!

      Facing Fear with Faith

One of the bravest men in the Bible was Joshua.

He took over leading the children of Israel after Moses died. There were possibly a million or more people in the group when Joshua became their leader.

Not only did he have to be their guide and the one who heard from God, but he was also responsible for leading their army into battle.

      Talk about brave!

But Joshua still felt afraid. God told him three times to be strong and courageous. Three more times God told Joshua, “I am with you.”

Even though Joshua was one of the bravest men to ever live, he struggled to have courage.

But he faced his fears and became a mighty warrior because he trusted God more than his own fear.

When you feel afraid, you can put your trust in God.

Overcome your fear with faith that God is with you and will help you.

      The Power of God’s Love

Have you ever been driving at night and seen scary Halloween decorations? Or maybe you’ve seen a haunted house that’s filled with all sorts of glowing, ghostly creatures.

But many times if you go back the next day when it’s light outside, you see that the decorations aren’t real.

They’re just plastic, fabric, and colored lights that are made to “float” and moan by with fans or batteries.

Just like ghosts and ghouls can’t withstand the light of day, fear cannot withstand the power of God’s love.

1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

When we truly understand and experience God’s amazing love for us, fear loses its grip on our hearts.

Remember, God loves you more than anything, and His love drives away all fear!

      Heroes of Faith

Throughout the Holy Bible, we find stories of brave men and women who faced their fears with courage and faith.

One such hero is Daniel, who stood firm in his faith even when faced with the terrifying lion’s den.

Another is David, who defeated the giant Goliath through his trust in God.

These heroes teach us that with God by our side, we can overcome any fear that comes our way.

If you want to know more about people who put their trust in God and served Him faithfully, check out Hebrews 11.

It’s a chapter full of Bible verses about people who had great faith in God.

      Praying for Courage

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

We know that fear does not come from God.

In fact, He tells us over and over again not to be afraid.

When fear tries to creep into our hearts, we can turn to prayer for strength and courage.

Just as Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane before facing the cross, we can seek God’s guidance and ask Him to fill us with His courage.

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

You can have peace in your heart even when you’re in a scary situation when you take your concerns to Jesus.

      Conclusion

When you put your trust in God, you don’t have to be afraid on Halloween and beyond.

Remember, when fear tries to sneak up on you, trust in God’s presence, embrace His perfect love, and draw courage from the heroes of faith in the Bible.

Don’t forget to pray, seeking God’s strength and peace in every situation.

With these tools in hand, you can boldly face anything that comes your way, knowing that you are never alone.

Remember to be brave, not afraid!
