5 Ways to Renew Your Heart This Spring

In this post: Simple, faith-filled ways to renew your heart this spring and draw closer to God in the middle of busy mom life.

There’s something about spring that makes everything feel new again.

After months of gray skies, bare trees, and chilly mornings, the world suddenly begins to wake up. The trees start budding, flowers appear in the most unexpected places, and the warm sunshine feels like a little gift from God.

Spring reminds us that new life is always possible.

Maybe the winter months left you feeling tired or discouraged. Maybe life has been busy and your quiet time with God has slowly slipped away. Or maybe your heart simply feels heavy with the everyday responsibilities of motherhood.

But sometimes our hearts don’t feel quite as renewed as the world around us.

If that’s you, I want to encourage you with something simple but powerful:

God specializes in renewal.

Just like He renews the earth every spring, He can renew our hearts, too.

5 Ways to Renew Your Heart

The beautiful part of renewal is that it doesn’t require a dramatic spiritual overhaul. Most of the time, it begins with small steps that gently bring our hearts back to Him.

Here are five simple ways to renew your heart this spring.

1. Return to God’s Word Daily

If your quiet time has fallen off track, spring is the perfect season to begin again.

And I do mean begin again, not start perfectly.

So many moms feel discouraged about spending time in the Bible because they think it has to look a certain way. Maybe you imagine a long, uninterrupted study session with commentaries and notebooks.

But the truth is that time with God doesn’t have to be complicated.

Sometimes renewal simply begins with opening your Bible and reading a few verses while the house is still quiet.

Even one verse can change the direction of your day.

Psalm 119:105 says:

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

God’s Word gently guides us, one step at a time.

Another simple way to reconnect with Scripture is by writing one verse each day. Writing slows us down and helps the truth of God’s Word settle deeply in our hearts.

2. Let Go of What’s Weighing on Your Heart

Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets and kitchen cabinets.

Sometimes our hearts need a little cleaning too.

Over time, things like worry, resentment, guilt, or comparison can quietly build up inside us. We carry them around without even realizing how heavy they’ve become.

But God never intended for us to carry those burdens alone.

1 Peter 5:7 reminds us:

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

When we bring our worries to God in prayer, something amazing happens. The weight we’ve been carrying begins to lift, and our hearts feel lighter.

You don’t need fancy words to do this. Simply talk to God honestly about what you’re feeling.

Sometimes spiritual renewal begins with something very simple:

Letting go of what we were never meant to carry.

3. Spend Time in Prayer

Prayer reconnects our hearts with God in a way nothing else can.

But many moms feel like they’re “not good at prayer,” or that they don’t have enough quiet time to pray the way they should.

Here’s the good news: prayer doesn’t have to be long or complicated.

Some of the sweetest moments of prayer happen right in the middle of everyday life.

You might pray while:

  • Making breakfast
  • Driving the kids somewhere
  • Folding laundry
  • Taking a walk outside

God hears every one of those prayers.

Philippians 4:6 encourages us with these words:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Prayer invites God into the ordinary moments of our day.

4. Notice God’s Beauty in Creation

One of my favorite things about spring is how clearly we can see the beauty of God’s creation.

The flowers bloom without being asked. Birds sing their cheerful songs in the morning. Trees that looked completely lifeless just a few weeks ago suddenly burst with new leaves.

It’s a beautiful reminder that God is always working, even when things look quiet on the surface.

Psalm 19:1 says:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

Sometimes the best way to renew your heart is simply to slow down and notice the world God created.

Take a few minutes to sit outside with your coffee and Bible. Go for a short walk. Watch the sunset. Listen to the birds in the morning.

These small moments remind us of God’s goodness and care.

5. Start One Small Faith Habit

One of the biggest mistakes we make when trying to grow spiritually is thinking we need to change everything all at once.

But real spiritual renewal usually grows through small, consistent habits.

Instead of trying to completely overhaul your routine, consider starting just one simple faith habit this spring.

You might try:

Over time, these small rhythms help keep our hearts focused on God.

Galatians 6:9 reminds us:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Little by little, these habits help our hearts stay rooted in Christ.

A Gentle Reminder for Busy Moms

If your heart has felt distant from God lately, please remember this:

God is never far away.

He isn’t waiting for you to perfectly organize your schedule or become a spiritual superhero before welcoming you back.

He simply invites you to come.

Spring reminds us that new beginnings are always possible.

And sometimes renewing your heart starts with something as small as opening your Bible, whispering a prayer, or taking a quiet moment to notice the beauty of the world God created.
