What is Scripture Writing?
Scripture writing is a spiritual discipline that involves writing Scripture verses by hand. While the concept sounds simple, it’s actually a powerful practice. When you write the Word of God, it forces you to slow down.
Sometimes we get distracted when we’re reading the Bible, especially if it’s a long chapter or passage. Sometimes I’ve had to read a verse multiple times because I realized my mind was somewhere else.
But writing God’s Word helps you to focus on the full meaning of the verses. Something special happens when you put pen to paper and write Scripture. The Bible says that His Word is powerful. It has the unique ability to change us from the inside out.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16
If you are struggling in a particular area in your spiritual journey, using a monthly plan to write God’s promises and commands on that topic will strengthen and encourage you.
Why You Should Write Scripture
The Bible is full of sweet blessings that the Holy Spirit promises to those who love God and serve Him. Those promises are available to all of God’s children!
You have many options for growing in grace, so why should you consider scripture writing?
Here are some great benefits of faithful Scripture writing:
- Deepen Your Faith: Engaging with the Word daily helps you grow spiritually.
- Memorization: Writing out verses helps commit them to memory.
- Reflection: It provides time for you to meditate on God’s promises.
- Spiritual Growth: Understanding and internalizing scriptures about freedom can strengthen your walk with Christ.
Supplies to Use with Your Scripture Writing Plan
If you want to make your Scripture writing an enjoyable experience, you can add a few products. (Totally unnecessary, but fun.)
Of course, you can keep your Scripture writing as simple as possible. But it can also be a creative way to enjoy your favorite Bible passages with journaling or hand lettering. You might even find that you love creating Scripture art.
You can use regular white paper, or print on cardstock to make it more durable. The plan is easy to print using your home printer because it doesn’t use a huge amount of ink, or involve a lot of printing. (I love my HP printer with the HP instant ink program. For me, it’s the most economical way to print all of my Bible studies and Scripture writing plans–even if they contain a lot of ink!)
- Scripture writing journal or prayer journal
- pretty pens
- highlighters
- Bible study stickers
While it’s not necessary, a journaling Bible is also a great bonus to have for Scripture writing. I use this one from Kingfolk. Not only is it beautiful, but it helps me dig deeper into God’s Word and take notes as I’m reading.
Remember, these extras are fun to have, but make sure you don’t miss the purpose of Scripture writing. Whether you use regular printer paper or go all out with a dedicated Scripture journal, you’ll grow in your Christian life!
It doesn’t matter how plain or fancy it is, as long as you learn God’s Word and deepen your faith!
