12 Christian Affirmations to Fight Doubt and Inspire Faith

Replace doubts and negative thoughts with these powerful Christian affirmations + Bible verses to inspire confidence in Christ!

It was a social media post from someone I’ve known for years. She and I were raised with similar backgrounds but chose totally different plans for our lives. Even though I am happily married and love my home and family, my mind was immediately filled with doubts.

Should I have made a different choice? Am I really living out God’s plan for me?

But questioning my own life choices wasn’t enough. We were attending a cookout with friends only a few days later, and they set up a big softball game. Some of the kids were really good! And that started me thinking…should I put my boys in organized sports? Is homeschooling really the best choice for us? Am I robbing my kids of a good life?

The truth is, I know that God has called me to this life. I know that He has called our family to homeschool. As best as I know, I am following God’s will and living out His plan. What makes me go through these times of doubt and questioning?

The answer lies all the way back to the beginning time. Right there in the book of Genesis.

The First Doubt

When Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden, they were given one commandment from God.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:16-17

In chapter 3, Satan came to attack Eve, hoping to convince her to sin. His method choice: make her doubt what God had said to her.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Genesis 3:1

Suddenly, Eve was wondering, “Did God really say that? Is He holding back something good from me? He says it’s bad for me, but it looks so good. If He truly loves me, doesn’t He want me to have this?”

And so it began.

Here we are six thousand years later, still questioning, “Is this really what God wants me to do? Did God really tell me to {insert your situation here}?”

Overcoming Doubts with the Truth of God

As women, we often struggle with negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves. We compare ourselves to others, think we’re not good enough, and feel like we don’t measure up. These negative thoughts can be crippling, and can even lead to low self-esteem and depression.

Sometimes we’re faced with doubts and fears about our callings, and wonder if God really does have a plan for us. Satan uses these doubts to keep us from dwelling in God’s perfect peace and fulfilling our God-given purpose.

God tells us who we really are, and we should believe His Words instead of our own thoughts. There are a lot of affirmations you can say to yourself every day. Most of them are positive statements about how you are enough, you are strong, and you are brave.

And they all sound amazing.

But if they aren’t built on God’s Word, and what He says about you, they’re just empty words. But the Word of God is full of powerful Bible verses to tell us exactly who we are in Christ.

The world and our own inner thoughts can be confusing and misleading. Social standards are constantly changing. What we are expected to be and do as women is constantly changing.

But God’s truth never changes.  Daily affirmations from God’s Word remind us that the promises of God are real no matter what we think of ourselves.

Why Christian Affirmations?

There are probably thousands of regular affirmations you can speak to yourself every day. But most of them focus on you. They focus on what you can do in your own strength.

Scripture-based affirmations are based on God’s strength. They remind us of our true identity in Christ Jesus.

When we are focused on God’s promises, we won’t fall prey to the lies of the enemy. Biblical affirmations are more than positive thoughts. They are reminders of that when we have the Holy Spirit, God is always with us. We can do all things when we depend on His strength and not our own.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

The Benefits of Positive Affirmations

Most of us have no idea of the power of our own thoughts. While I can’t claim to understand all the scientific studies, I do know that the words we think and the things we say to ourselves have a way of working into our subconscious mind.

While constantly criticizing yourself or doubting your worth in the eyes of God seems harmless, it’s not. Eventually, those ugly thoughts can turn into actions and cause us to lose our zeal to serve the Lord.

It’s vital for our mental health to fill our minds with positive phrases and words, but also with Biblical teachings to remind us of the promises of God. Positive Biblical affirmations are one of the best ways to change our negative thoughts into a more positive mindset when we accompany them with unwavering faith in the Lord.

Reminding yourself on a daily basis that God is with you, He loves you, and is working all things for your good will change your life from the inside out.

12 Powerful Christian Affirmations for Women

The best (and only) way to know what God says about you is through reading His Word. Biblical truth is a powerful tool to overcome the negative thoughts and doubts our enemy throws at us. Here are ## spiritual affirmations that come directly from the Bible, so you can trust they are true.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14

As women, we often look in the mirror and pick out our flaws. But Psalm 139:14 reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. We are unique, beautiful, and loved by Him. This affirmation is a reminder to appreciate ourselves and our bodies, just as they are.

No matter how society’s standard of beauty and worth may change, we can cling to the knowledge that we are made in the image of God. Just remembering that you are God’s masterpiece in your everyday life can give you a more positive outlook every day!

I am loved.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

The world can be a cruel place, and it’s easy to feel unloved and alone at times. But Romans 8:39 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. This affirmation is a reminder that we are loved by Him, no matter what. It can be empowering to remember that we are not defined by the opinions of others, but rather by the love of God.

I can do all things through Christ.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13

Sometimes we look at a situation or problem and think, “There’s no way I can do this.” And it’s true that we cannot on our own. But when we live our lives in God’s power, we can do great things through Him.

Philippians 4:13 is a powerful affirmation that reminds us that we are capable of anything with the help of God. We may feel weak or powerless at times, but we can find strength in Him. This verse is a reminder to trust in God’s power instead or having faith in ourselves.

I am forgiven.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

As human beings, we all make mistakes and have moments of weakness. But 1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us. This affirmation is a reminder that we are forgiven by God, and we should forgive ourselves (and others!) as well. We don’t have to carry around the weight of our mistakes when we have a loving God who is willing to forgive us.

I am a child of God.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

Sometimes we forget the beauty that comes from being children of God. We don’t deserve this position in Him, but He made a way through the death of Jesus on the cross. Because of God’s grace, we can have eternal life through Him.

The Christian affirmation of John 1:12 reminds us that when we received Jesus into our hearts, we became His sons and daughters. Forever a part of His family and His chosen people.

I can be brave.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

The world is full of fear, and we all face it sometimes–especially if you have kids! It’s so easy to let fear rule and control you, even to the point that you miss out on the great plans God has for you.

Whenever you feel fear creeping into your heart, this affirmation from 2 Timothy 1:7 is a reminder that it’s not from God. Address the root issue of your fear and trust God.

I have everything I need.

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

We know that God always has our best interests at heart. If you’re in a season of prayer, asking God for something, you might feel as if He doesn’t hear you or doesn’t care. But just like a shepherd takes care of all the needs of the sheep, God will meet all of your needs, too.

Psalm 23:1 reminds us that when we trust the Lord’s plan for our lives, we don’t want anything out of His will. We may not always understand His will and ways, but we can always trust that He is giving us everything we need.

I can have peace in the middle of chaos.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

If there’s one thing moms understand, it’s chaos. Not to mention the fact that we live in a world that thrives on a run, run, run pace at all times. It can feel like your mind is whirling at a hundred miles an hour. Even when you take a few minutes to sit down and try to focus on the things of the Lord, worries, fears and doubts can crowd your mind.

However, you can have peace even when life is crazy and you don’t know which way is up or down. Your soul finds true peace comes from giving your burdens to God, and trusting that He will always take care of you. God’s peace is beyond what we can understand, but He gives it willingly to those who ask Him.

I can start over when I mess up.

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

I don’t know about you, but I have never once had a day when I didn’t make at least one mistake. (Let’s face it, I usually have many, many mistakes in a day.) This beautiful affirmation from Lamentations reminds us that God gives us a fresh start every day.

If you were to add up all of your sins and failures it would be an insurmountable obstacle to climb. But God says He wipes the slate clean to start over every morning.

Today is a good day.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Some days are just not good. (That is probably not good English grammar, but you understand my meaning!) But even if a day seems like it’s going totally wrong, Psalm 118 reminds us that God made it. We can and should find a reason to rejoice every day. If you can’t find any other reason, remember that God’s love for you is never-ending. That’s enough to make any day better!

When I am weak, I am strong.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Romans 12:9

I cannot live out God’s plan for me in my own strength. I don’t have the wisdom to make the right decisions or the power to do what I know is right. But that’s okay! God designed us to need Him. If we never needed God, we would never see His power.

It’s hard to rejoice when you figure out you can’t do something on your own! But the Christian affirmation in Romans 12:9 says we can glory when we realize our own limitations because that gives God the opportunity to show His strength!

God has a plan for me.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11

This affirmation is a reminder that God has a purpose for our lives, and we can trust His plans. Even when things seem uncertain and scary, we can have faith that God is working for our good. His ways are not our ways, but he sees the future and He’s always doing what is best for us.

Living Out These Powerful Affirmations

It’s so easy for us as women to get caught up in negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves. But as Christians, we have the power of God’s Word to remind us of who we really are. These Christian affirmations are a tool to help us combat negative self-talk and to trust in God’s power–not our own.

They remind us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, loved by God, capable of anything, forgiven, loved, and brave. Let’s make a conscious effort to believe God’s promises over our own thoughts and to trust in Him as we navigate this journey and live God’s plan every day.
