35 Powerful Bible Verses for My Son to Guide His Faith

These powerful Bible verses for my son will help you encourage him to grow his faith as he becomes a man who follows and honors God.

As Christian moms, we want few things more than to give our sons the gift of faith. One powerful way to do this is by sharing encouraging Bible verses for sons with them. There’s so much wisdom in God’s Word that can help shape young boys into godly men and bless them on their journeys through life.

There’s an old saying that goes, “A mother works from son up to son down.” If you are a boy mom, you know that to be true. No one prepares you for the amount of dirt, noise, and downright chaos that comes along with having sons.

At the same time, nothing can prepare you for the absolute joy that a son brings to his mama’s heart. No feeling can match those chubby (and probably dirty) little fingers reaching up to hold your hand. There’s nothing quite so sweet-smelling as a little boy when he’s fresh out of the tub with bare feet and wet hair sticking in all directions.

While we cherish these beautiful children God gave us, it’s easy to let the days slip by. We forget that those little feet that don’t touch the floor when they sit at the dinner table will one day put on work boots and head out to a job.

Those days seem so far in the future, but they aren’t. Before we know it, our young sons will be men and leaders of their own families, doing good work for the Lord and serving in the kingdom of God.

Being a mom is one of the greatest blessings of my life. But being a mom to sons is a great responsibility with eternal ramifications. We cannot guarantee that our sons will come to know Christ, but we can do all in our power to show them the ways of the Lord.

The Instruction of the Lord

Our modern society has assigned so many tasks to us as moms. Somewhere along the way, we became responsible for giving our kids a perfect, magical childhood with perfectly decorated aesthetic bedrooms, educational toys and experiences, and Pinterest-worthy recipes for every meal.

Social media makes it worse as we compare our efforts to those of someone else. And when we don’t measure up, we start to feel the mom guilt and the worry we are failing our kids.

Here’s some good news for moms: God doesn’t require any of those things from us. The commands of God for parents are actually pretty simple.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7

That’s it. God tells parents that we should put the Word of God into our hearts, and share it with our children at every opportunity. Sharing our Christian faith and the love of God with our boys should be a part of our daily life.

We should lead by example so that our sons know the Holy Scriptures from the time they are children. A mother’s teaching will stay with a son far longer than we realize.

The book of Proverbs promises us that if we raise our sons in God’s way, they will never be able to forget it when they are older.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

35 Bible Verses for Sons

If we want to raise our boys into strong, godly men who love God and their families, we will need the power of the Holy Spirit and plenty of Scripture verses. As moms, we spend so much time with our children and recognize that we play a huge role in shaping their character and worldview.

There are many Bible verses that resonate with boys and can shape their values and life choices. Here are 35 inspirational Bible verses moms can use to start their sons on the right path.

Ephesians 6:1-2

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

To obey your parents is one of the Ten Commandments, so we know it’s one of the most basic laws, and also one of the most important ones. Remind your son that God has promised a long life to those who honor and obey their parents.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

A son needs to know that if he dedicates his whole life to serving God, and trusts God to lead him the right way, he will never go wrong! Your son’s thoughts and plans might seem good in his own eyes, but God always knows what is best.

1 John 4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

This is an amazing verse to share with your son when he makes a wise decision or takes a step in his faith. Instead of just saying you’re proud of him, explain that you have joy when you see him serving God.

Proverbs 13:1

A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Correcting our children is an important part of raising them to walk in the way of wisdom. It’s important that our sons know that correction is part of life, and we do it to help them become the men God wants them to be. Most of us have seen a child who cannot accept correction, and they never become successful adults.

Proverbs 15:5

A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

No parent likes to see foolishness in their child’s life. We need to instruct our sons in love and explain to them that part of being a son of God is accepting teaching and instruction from a wise father and mother. A foolish son breaks his mother’s heart. But a wise son brings joy to his parents.

Psalm 103:17

But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto childrens children;

The day when my boys are adults seems so far away, and I cannot even imagine the day when they will have their own children! This verse reminds us that God is merciful to those who love Him, and we want to raise our sons to follow God so that their children can walk in His mercy, too.

Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Numbers 6:24-26 are some of my favorite Bible verses to pray for my sons. Sharing these verses first thing in the morning, or the last thing at night before bed is a great way to bless our children and remind them of God’s love.

1 John 3:1

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Remind your son that the love of our Heavenly Father is so amazing! While the love a mother has for her son is amazing, it can never compare to the love God gives to all of His sons and daughters!

Matthew 18:4

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Sometimes children feel like they aren’t really important in the grand scheme of life. Our sons need us to teach them that Jesus loved little children so much that He would not let His disciples turn them away. Instead, He said that only a person with faith like a child can enter the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 4:10

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

Here is another verse to show our sons how important it is to obey their parents! A person who lives a long life gains much wisdom, but they must start by listening to their father and mother’s teachings.

Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Correction and discipline are never pleasant whether you are an adult or a child. But when we experience the Lord’s discipline, we know that He is correcting us in love. God is a Good Father to all of His children and He is doing what’s best for us and our sons.

Proverbs 23:26

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

There’s a popular saying floating around on social media graphics and bumper stickers that says, “Follow your heart. It knows the way.” Unfortunately, that just isn’t true. The book of Proverbs tells us that foolishness is bound in the heart of a child.
Encourage your son not to try to follow his own heart or make his own path. Let him know that you are available to help guide his heart and help him build a strong relationship with the Lord.

Hebrews 12:5

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Hebrews 12:5 is a New Testament reminder that God corrects us when we do wrong because He loves us and wants what is best for us. The discipline of the Lord is not pleasant, but children of God learn to understand that it is the best way to grow closer to God.

Proverbs 17:6

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Let your son know that he matters to you! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the practical stuff of life, we forget to tell our kids that just being their mom brings us joy. Children are the best things we have in love, and they should know how much we love them!

Psalm 127:3-4

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

I once heard a preacher give a powerful illustration of this verse. He said that our children will go places we’ll never go. They will influence people we will never meet.

When we raise our children in the Lord’s ways, we prepare them like arrows. One day, when they’re ready, they will go far into this dark world and share what we’ve taught them.

It is especially important to remember on those hard days of motherhood when it feels like you aren’t making any progress. God has a plan for your sons and mine and is using us to prepare them for His will.

Galatians 4:6

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

As much as I wish I could always be with my sons when they need me, the reality is, I can’t. However, I want them to know that as sons of God, they have the Holy Spirit living inside them. Christ Jesus is always with them and hears their prayers.

Romans 8:15

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

I don’t know about your sons, but mine do not like to tell me when they are afraid or worried. (But as their mom, I can always tell!) Our sons need a mama to remind them that fear does not come from God. Instead, He offers, peace, strength, and hope.

Isaiah 40:30-31

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Young men think they are invincible, but we know that eventually, earthly strength runs out. Our sons need us to teach them to rely on the Lord for their strength because His strength never ends!

Proverbs 1:8-9

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

The laws and rules given by parents are important in a boy’s life. While we aren’t actually putting a garland of grace around his head, or hanging chains around his neck, our instructions are constant reminders to him of what is right and wrong.

Psalm 139:13-14

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Our world is so hung up on appearances. And if your son doesn’t quite measure up to the standard he needs to be reminded that God made him just like he is–and he’s wonderful and amazing!

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

When we raise our sons to love God and respect others, they will be different in the world. Encourage your son to let his light shine for God and be an example of Jesus Christ in the world.

1 Timothy 4:12

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

We’ve all seen those kids who are so obnoxious and rude, and you really just hate to see your kids playing with them. But it doesn’t have to be that way! We can teach our sons to have good attitudes and earn the respect of adults and other children alike.

Joshua 1:9

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

When we think of courageous men in the Bible, Joshua would have to be on the list. But he didn’t start out that way. God reminded him over and over again to be courageous. So we need to teach our sons that it’s okay to be afraid–as long as they turn to God for courage.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

I love this Bible story where Samuel went to anoint a new king of Israel and knew that God would choose one of the strong, handsome sons of Jesse. But God reminded him that God cares more about what’s on the inside.

Our sons can’t change much about their appearance. (If they could, most of them would be taller and have bigger muscles!) But they can have a kind heart that’s willing to serve God and others.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Sometimes my boys get into a “can’t” attitude. They need us to remind them that they can do anything when they get their strength from God.

Psalm 133:1

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

If you have more than one son, you’ll preach this verse often! Boys fight and argue a lot, but we should encourage them to also be one another’s greatest supporters and best friends.
