Book Review: Praying Mom by Brooke McGlothlin
On the front cover of Brooke McGlothlin’s new book, Praying Mom, you’ll read this little blurb. “Making prayer the first and best response to motherhood.” How powerful is that?
As a Christian mom, I want prayer to be my first resource, and not my last resort. So, why is that I often struggle to pray?
I love the message of this book. You can pray more, and you can pray powerful prayers that matter. And if you aren’t sure how, Praying Mom is the book for you.

Summary
Brooke McGlothlin is the co-founder of Million Praying Moms, where she encourages and equips moms to pray for their children. Praying Mom is full of wisdom and practical advice to help you grow your prayer life.
The first part of the book goes over the excuses we often have for not praying. I know, it sounds terrible to say that we have excuses NOT to pray. But we do.
Have you ever thought of any of these?
- I don’t know if my prayers really matter.
- I don’t know what to pray.
- I can’t pray until I get my life together.
- I have small children. I can’t even think, much less pray!
Yes, they are all legitimate, but all excuses we use for not praying like we should. Praying Mom addresses each of the reasons we don’t pray like we should. But then, Brooke gives real-life advice for overcoming them.
Each chapter begins and ends with a story from a mom who’s been there. And they are honest. They tell the struggles you probably don’t want to admit you have.
The second part of the book is called “Scripture-Inspired Prayers for Today’s Christian Mom.” There are examples for prayers to pray when you need hope, your child needs help, you’re angry, you’re afraid, you need God to move…and more.
Praying Scripture is so powerful. If you’re not sure where to start, this will give you the foundation you need.

Praying Mom Review
I have often heard of people praying Scripture, but I honestly wasn’t sure how to do it. I love that Brooke doesn’t just give me examples of Scriptures to pray. She tells me how to find my own Scriptures and turn them into prayers.
I loved that each chapters begins and ends with stories from real moms. Often, we feel so alone in motherhood, and it can seem like our struggles are unique to us.
I found so much encouragement reading about other women’s struggles. Each one of these women had reasons they couldn’t pray, or didn’t pray. But they found solutions, whether it was finding time to pray, or realizing that God heard them pray, or that they could pray even if they didn’t have it all together.
I want to be a praying mom. But sometimes I don’t know how, or where to start. This book gives a solid foundation for praying powerful prayers for my children.
God says His Word will not return void, but will accomplish the thing He wants. (Isaiah 55:1) Nothing is more powerful than praying Scripture, and you can learn to do it.
I highly recommend Praying Mom to any mom who wants to pray for her children. You can find the power and strength that comes from having a faithful, consistent prayer life.
