Jesus loves and cares for mothers. We see that on display many times in the Bible, but my favorite might be the story of the widow of Nain in Luke 7.
It was the worst day of her life. She was a widow, and now she was burying her only son.
She followed her son’s body out of the gates of the city. Her friends and family gathered around her, mourning as they carried her precious boy to his grave.
Her heart was broken, and her future uncertain. As a widow in ancient Israel, it was the job of her son to take care of her. Who would see now that she had a home, food and a means to survive?
Suddenly, Jesus approached the funeral procession. He looked at her and said, “Weep not.”
Then, He turned to her son and said, “Young man, I say to thee, Arise.”
Immediately, he sat up and began to talk.
This story tells us that Jesus was going into the city surrounded by His disciples, and “much people.” But He saw this one mother, and He went out of His way to give her what she needed.
Jesus often reached out to women during His earthly ministry. In Biblical times women were often treated as property. But He proved that women mattered to God.
The Bible is filled with encouraging words for mothers just to remind us of His love and care for us.

God has a lot to say about motherhood. Here are just a few beautiful Bible verses about motherhood that tell us just how much He cares about us.
Proverbs 31:28
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Several years ago I attended the funeral of a very dear lady. Her husband and four children each stood up and shared what a wonderful influence she had been in their lives.
The praise and blessing that comes from your children is the ultimate goal of motherhood. It’s not something we achieve easily.
But it comes after years of love and sacrifice for those we love.
Isaiah 66:13
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you;
What a beautiful picture of God’s love! Even the “bravest” of little boys searches for his mama when he needs to be comforted.
And she takes him into her arms with love. God longs to do the same for His children.
Proverbs 14:1
Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
The sacrifices we make every day in motherhood aren’t for nothing. Our words and actions every day are either building our family up or slowly tearing them down. Are my daily actions building the family God wants for me?
Proverbs 11:16
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
Society tells us a woman must be powerful to be successful. But true honor doesn’t come from having power. A successful mother is gracious and kind.
Bible Verses for Struggling Moms
Being a mom is the most wonderful thing I’ve ever experienced. But that’s not to say it’s always easy. Sometimes we do face struggles and hard times.
Here are some Bible verses that offer strength to mothers who are struggling.
Psalm 61:2
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
I love that the Psalmist wrote this verse! Being a mom (and just life in general) is sometimes overwhelming.
When we’re feeling discouraged, or don’t know what to do, He offers strength and peace.
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Have you ever heard the saying, “You find out who your friends are?”
When we have trouble in life, that’s when we know which of our friends are real. It’s painful to realize you don’t have anyone to turn to in a situation. But God is always there. Safety in our times of trouble.
Proverbs 16:3
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Just because you’re doing right doesn’t mean it’s always easy! But this verse promises us, that when we continue to do right, eventually our minds will follow our hearts. We will find peace in the difficulties.
Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Peace is hard to come by in the world. But God says we can have peace instead of worry. When life isn’t going as we hoped, we can bring our requests to Him.
But first, He tells us we should pray with thanksgiving. When I’m struggling as a mom, I have found that taking time for gratitude can turn my attitude around.
Bible Verses for New Moms
Becoming a mom is a brand new feeling. It’s full of joy, peace, smiles–and a lot of overwhelm and even doubt and fear about the task before us. Here are some great verses to offer hope and encouragement to new moms.
1 Samuel 1:27
For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him.
There is no greater joy than having a child. All of those prayers you’ve been praying for the last months and years have been fully answered. Take a few minutes (or hours!) to thank the Lord for this wonderful miracle He has given you!
1 Thessalonians 5:24
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
When you hold your baby for the first time, you’re filled with amazement, love, and a certain sense of fear. This child is yours to raise into a happy, well-functioning adult. It’s an overwhelming prospect.
Thankfully, God doesn’t leave us alone in this job. He called us to be mothers, and He will help us to be good mothers for His glory.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
The most important part of motherhood is learning to trust the Lord in all aspects of parenting. There will be times you have no idea what to do! But He always does, and He will encourage your heart.
Bible Verses for Homeschool Moms
Even if you aren’t formally homeschooling your kids, moms are always teaching. And we feel like we just aren’t enough.

The truth is, we aren’t. But God has called us to be teachers to our kids, and He gives us encouragement for that, too!
James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
I have a five-year-old and an eight-year-old. There is no possible way I could answer all of their questions. (If you know, you know!)
But when it comes to the really important stuff in life, God has the answers. And He will give that wisdom to any mama who asks Him.
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us…
I feel inadequate every day to teach my children. Whether it’s math problems, writing the ABCs, or just how to behave in the grocery store.
One of the prayers on my daily prayer list is that God will help me to train my boys the right way. I’m so thankful to know that He is able to do so much more than I can! I hope that He will take my humble attempts, and use them for His glory in my children’s lives.
Philippians 4:11
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
This verse is great news for a mama’s heart! We cannot do all we need to do in our own strength. But we can do it through Him!
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…
We worry a lot about teaching our kids reading, writing, and arithmetic. Yes, those things matter! But what matters the most is teaching them God’s Word and His principles.
Make sure that in the middle of all the other teaching and learning, you are showing them the importance of living for God.
Bible Verses for Tired Moms
Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Hard times in life make us just want to throw our hands up and quit! But God has promised us that if we keep going, we will one day reap the results of our hard work.
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Tired Mama, He sees you. He knows that your strength is not enough. Give your struggles to Him. And He will give you the strength you need to go on.
2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Our weakness is where God shows His strength. If you and I were able to do everything on our own, we wouldn’t need Him. Knowing that we can’t be all that our kids need us to be is humbling.
But knowing that He is enough for us and for them is a powerful realization! He can fill in the holes of everything we can’t be and do. And His way is always best after all.
Godly Encouragement for Moms
Motherhood is a beautiful gift. It’s the most wonderful calling God gives to women. But just like all things that are worthwhile in life, it’s hard.
