Cinco de Mayo is a fun and colorful holiday where we like to eat tacos and wear sombreros. But it’s also a fun way to celebrate a part of Mexican culture with our kids. These Cinco de Mayo printable activities for preschoolers will help you make the day a learning experience for kids of all ages.
Everyone loves a good party–and it’s even better if there are tacos, nachos, and piñatas! As homeschoolers and teachers, we’re always looking for new ways to engage our students and get them excited about learning.
These Cinco de Mayo activities will give you a creative way to talk about a fun holiday, as well as improve fine motor skills, math skills, and even a little bit of writing and basic Spanish thrown in!
Printable Cinco de Mayo Worksheets
Cinco de Mayo is an important part of Mexican history–although we celebrate it more in the United States than they do in Mexico! If you have older children, it’s a great opportunity to talk about some fun facts about Cinco de Mayo, and the Franco-Mexican War.
For young children, these printable activities are a great way to learn about numbers, counting up to five (since we’re talking about May 5th!), and even talking about Mexican heritage.
Here is a variety of Cinco de Mayo resources to help you talk about this fun Mexican holiday with your 4-6 year-olds.
Cinco de Mayo Coloring Pages
One of the best things about a Cinco de Mayo celebration is all the vibrant colors! These coloring pages give kids an excellent opportunity to practice creative expression.
the pages feature kids dressed in traditional costumes for kids to color however they wish.
There is also a collection of coloring pages to practice counting in Spanish. Each page features a number, a number word, and a coordinating amount of elements. Color one child in a traditional costume, two maracas, three guitars, four cacti, and five tacos. (The tacos are my personal favorite!)
More coloring pages include some fun traditional Mexican elements along with words to color. Lastly, let kids practice number recognition and color words with a color-by-number page. The coloring pages alone will provide hours of learning fun for your kiddos.
Language Arts and Handwriting Practice
Your kids will get some language practice while coloring the words, but add in a little more with this writing activity. Beginner writers can simply trace the words. Children who are a little older may also be able to write the words on their own.
After kids become familiar with these new words, they can draw a line from the picture to the word to show off their new knowledge.
It’s a great way to practice writing neatly, as well as learn some new words.
Cinco de Mayo Counting Activities
When a holiday includes a number in the name, it’s a perfect excuse for counting practice. These pages include opportunities to count objects, color numbers, and trace Spanish number words.
There are also some simple math activities for counting and choosing the correct number. Don’t forget everyone’s favorite–iSpy! Count the objects and write the numbers in the boxes at the bottom. (An answer key is included for easy reference.)
While these activities are easy, they help kids relate numbers, words, and objects together. Plus, it’s fun to learn to count in Spanish.
Number Tracing
Continue with the counting and practice writing numbers with these pages. One page allows children to trace rows of numbers. While the other pages allow additional practice for each number individually. Numbers can be challenging, so this practice is vital to help them learn how to form them correctly.
