October: Planning & Early Preparation

WEEK 1 (OCT 1-7) Start with the big picture—your budget, gift list, and travel plans. This week, you’ll create the foundation for everything that follows:

  • Create a holiday budget
  • Brainstorm gift ideas for family and friends
  • Plan any travel arrangements
  • List Christmas parties or events you’ll host or attend
  • Start a master to-do list for Christmas prep

WEEK 2 (OCT 8-14) A clutter-free home makes holiday decorating and gift-giving a breeze. It’s also the perfect time to start thinking about DIY gifts and Christmas cards:

  • Declutter your home to make room for décor and gifts
  • Organize any DIY gifts or projects
  • Plan and order Christmas cards
  • Book travel tickets or accommodations if needed

WEEK 3 (OCT 15-21) Get ahead of the holiday menu and baking plans this week. By planning your meals now, you’ll avoid grocery store chaos (and higher prices!) later:

  • Create a holiday menu plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Decide on holiday baking (cookies, treats, etc.)
  • Start buying non-perishable holiday foods
  • List Christmas traditions you want to include this year

WEEK 4 (OCT 22-31) Early shopping pays off—especially for those high-demand items. And, don’t forget to start gathering addresses for Christmas cards and begin decorating:

  • Begin early Christmas shopping (especially for hard-to-find items)
  • Order any personalized or custom gifts
  • Gather addresses for Christmas card mailing
  • Start decorating for fall and early winter

November: Shopping & Preparations

WEEK 1 (NOV 1-7) As we roll into November, it’s time to finalize your holiday décor and stock up on wrapping supplies. You’ll also want to start planning some Christmas activities for the kids:

  • Order wrapping supplies (paper, tape, ribbons)
  • Plan Christmas activities for the kids (crafts, baking)
  • Start thinking about your Christmas tree (real vs. artificial)

WEEK 2 (NOV 8-14) Now’s the time to wrap any early gifts, send out international Christmas cards, and prepare for Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping:

WEEK 3 (NOV 15-21) A clean house is the perfect canvas for holiday décor. You’ll also want to check those Christmas lights and continue wrapping as gifts arrive:

  • Make a list of family and friends to call during the holidays

WEEK 4 (NOV 22-30) This is the week for decking the halls! Take advantage of Black Friday deals and start planning those holiday outfits:

  • Decorate the house (lights, tree, etc.)
  • Set up outdoor decorations and lights
  • Shop Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals
  • Plan holiday outfits for parties and Christmas Day

WEEK 1 (DEC 1-7) The final stretch is here! Make sure you’re on track with cards, gifts, and baking. Use this week to wrap up loose ends and finalize party details:

  • Mail local Christmas cards
  • Finish buying gifts
  • Start holiday baking (freeze items that can be made ahead)
  • Finalize party/event details
  • Confirm travel arrangements

WEEK 2 (DEC 8-14) Now it’s time to wrap those final gifts, prepare stockings, and complete any DIY projects. You’ll also want to finalize your holiday menus and shopping lists:

  • Start wrapping the rest of the gifts
  • Prepare Christmas stockings
  • Finalize holiday menus and grocery lists
  • Finish any DIY gifts and projects

WEEK 3 (DEC 15-21) Finish up the wrapping, shopping, and preparing for any holiday parties. Don’t forget to deliver local gifts or baked goods to friends and neighbors:

  • Finish wrapping all gifts
  • Shop for Christmas dinner ingredients
  • Host or attend any mid-December parties
  • Deliver local gifts and baked goods

WEEK 4 (DEC 22-25) Christmas is just around the corner! This week is all about enjoying the fruits of your planning. Get ready for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and, most importantly, enjoy time with your loved ones:

  • Prepare for Christmas Eve (cookies for Santa, hang stockings)
  • Cook Christmas Eve dinner
  • Make final preparations for Christmas Day
  • Relax and enjoy time with family!

Post-Christmas (DEC 26-31)

Once the festivities wind down, it’s time to write thank you notes, return any unwanted gifts, and prepare for the New Year:

  • Write thank you notes
  • Take down and store decorations
  • Return/exchange any unwanted gifts
  • Start planning New Year’s Eve celebrations
