Being a stay-at-home mom requires a lot of sacrifice. And I mean a lot. There was a time when I thought working from home would require more sacrifice without much return. Then I learned how I can work as a virtual assistant and everything changed!

DOES YOUR FAMILY NEED EXTRA INCOME?
Many people today believe that it’s impossible to survive on just one income. That may or may not be true, depending on what you mean by “survive.” Because my family lives on one income, we skip a lot of fancy things.
We rarely eat out.
We don’t buy a lot of new clothes.
Our kids aren’t involved in extracurricular activities like sports or lessons.
We don’t have cable. (Which is also a personal choice.)
And it’s been totally worth it to us.
But a few months ago we set out on a brand-new adventure to build our dream house on our own little farm. I quickly realized that if we were ever going accomplish our goals, we either had to spend less, or earn more.
We had pretty much cut our budget down to the bare bones. While we’ve never missed or been late on a payment, there wasn’t a lot left over for saving.
I knew that I needed to find a way to be able to make some extra money, but staying home with my boys is so important to me. I started looking for ways to start working from home to bring in some income without having to sacrifice my time with them.
HOW TO GET STARTED WORKING AS A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
I started reading about moms working from home as virtual assistants, and I was so interested in trying that. But when I looked into courses I could take, they were so expensive—like $500!! I needed to bring in extra money, not spend it!
I pretty much gave up on the idea, until I was invited to a free webinar by Carlee and Victoria from Moms Work Hard VAs. They laid out the basics for VA work, and told me how I really could do it!
While they gave all the basic information for setting up my own business, they promised more in their full course. My heart sank a little. I could never afford to buy a full course if it cost as much as the other one I’d seen.
But when I checked this one, it was so affordable! Billy had gotten some extra hours at work and we had a little bit of extra money, so after a lot of prayer, I bought the course.
It’s so straight-forward. Carlee and Victoria showed me that I already have skills I can use to work from home. I don’t have to sell things. I don’t post endlessly on social media to get people to buy my products. And there’s no inventory for me to track or store.
When I first started, I didn’t know exactly what kind of work I wanted to do. There are so many options! But as I learned and read, I decided to focus on helping other bloggers. Even then, I wasn’t sure exactly what to offer.

Before I had even finished the course, I was putting my knowledge to use. I started sending emails out to bloggers who I hoped could use my services. Some didn’t reply at all, most said no, but a few did say yes!
This stay-at-home mom had my own business! Working at home as a virtual assistant finally gave me the freedom I wanted, while still helping out my family.

Every day while Jax is at school and Jase is taking his nap I’m sitting at my laptop working. Sometimes dinner is a little late, or I’m up after everyone else is asleep. But I’m doing something I love, and I’m getting paid for it.

When we bought our land, I took over making our camper payment. We were able to commit to giving more to our church’s Bridge Builder program. The other day I ordered new clothes and paid for them myself. I am not rich, but just a few months ago I couldn’t have done any of those things.
