Book Review: The Time-Saving Mom by Crystal Paine

Another book about time management for moms? Yes, but The Time-Saving Mom by Crystal Paine is possibly my new favorite.

Yes, I say new favorite, because I love books on time management and I’ve read a lot of them. I love Crystal’s approach to managing time, especially for busy moms who feel like they need a little structure.

As a mom who works from home, homeschools my two boys and has a husband who works non-traditional hours, a lot of scheduling plans won’t work for me.

Moms need something that’s flexible, doable, and works with all the changes being a mom throws our way! Crystal’s plan gives us just that.

The Time Saving Mom Summary

I have been a fan of Crystal’s for a long time, but in case you aren’t, let me give you a quick rundown.

Crystal has been a blogger for years. She was a mom to three kids, running her blog very successfully. She was very open about her struggles with secondary infertility, but a few years ago she and her husband miraculously had a fourth child.

Around the same time, they also became foster parents, and kept several children in their home. When their youngest child was a toddler, Crystal became pregnant with another baby, and they also decided to adopt a child with special needs.

So, as of the writing of Time Saving Mom, Crystal has three teenage children, and three under the age of four. She still runs her blog, writes books, reads and exercises every day.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who wonders how she does it all!, Now, she’s laying it all out for us in her newest book, The Time Saving Mom.

Crystal calls her plan “The 6:2 Plan.” I won’t tell you how it works, but I thought it was pretty genius! The best part is that it’s totally customizable, so every mom can make it fit her life.

Here’s what I love: I get to choose my own priorities and do what matters to me. Crystal lays out what matters to her, and tells how she fits it in. Then, she shows moms how to choose what matters to us, and fit it in.

None of us have a cookie cutter life, or even a cookie cutter day. That’s why having a flexible daily plan like the 6:2 plan is perfect!

Recommendation

First, I want to say that my recommendation comes with a warning. Crystal is a type A personality. In fact, if there’s such a thing as an A++ personality, she’s got it!

I am a Type A person. I love planners and lists and crossing things off. However, I’m not at Crystal’s level of detail. If you’ve never read her books, or followed her on social media, it can seem like a lot when you start.

However, I really think this simple system is doable for every mom. You don’t need need a fancy planner (although, in all fairness, I love my planner and use it every day!) or color-coded stickers or highlighters. It really is simple and time-saving.

If you’re like me and sometimes feel overwhelmed, and like you’re missing out on the things that matter, read this book. The secret is to decide what your priorities are, and stick to those. Let the other stuff go.

If you’re not sure how (I get it, I wasn’t either), The Time Saving Mom will give you a solid framework to do it.

I recommend this book for any mom who really wants to make the most of her time, and enjoy life a little more. It’s for every woman who feels stressed and like she’s running on a hamster wheel, but not getting anywhere.

I hesitate to use the words “life-changing” because that feels just a little bit over-dramatic. But I do think having a plan that helps you get from point A to point B every day (or almost every day) can be a major shift. And I’m all here for that!
