Book Review: Victory Over the Darkness by Neil T. Anderson
I want to start by saying, this is not exactly the kind of book review I usually write. I like to review fun fiction, self help or even devotionals. Victory Over the Darkness by Neil T. Anderson doesn’t fit into those categories.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links. If you click on a link and make a purchase, I will receive a small commission.
Victory Over the Darkness was first printed years ago, and now has over 2 millions copies sold. It has been revised and updated for a new generation of readers.
I have heard people talk about Neil’s books for a long time, and they have been recommended to me be a few friends. So I jumped at the opportunity to finally read one.
Summary
Victory Over the Darkness is built on the promise of John 8:32.
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
What is the truth? The truth is that God has given us victory over the darkness of Satan’s lies. We don’t have to hope for it, wish for it, or wait for it. We just have to accept it.
Victory Over the Darkness is full of personal stories and practical ways that Christians can walk in freedom in Christ.
Satan attacks our minds daily. Victory Over the Darkness presents clear reason why we don’t have to fall prey to his attacks. Christ Himself tells us who we are in Him.
Victory Over the Darkness Review
One of the greatest attacks of Satan is to deceive us from seeing our true worth in Christ. He blinds us to the freedom that Christ has given us.
I think many of us struggle with these issues. Satan attacks our minds with thoughts that we have no worth. That we have to work to earn His approval or love.
Sure, we probably know on some level that isn’t true. But we don’t really believe it.
As I read Victory Over the Darkness I found so much encouragement. It is filled with pages of Bible verses. You don’t have to take Neil’s word for who you are. You can read it directly from the Bible.
Since this is an updated edition of the book, there are many personal accounts from people who read it the first time, or have heard Neil’s messages.
I related to so many of them. I thought that so many of the struggles I have faced were unique to me. But it turns out, many Christians are facing the same struggles.
Reading Victory Over the Darkness has been so eye-opening to me. I love these verses that assure me of my identity in Christ. The Bible is full of them. (It’s almost like God knew we’d need them!)
If you’re like me, maybe you struggle with thinking you can’t live in victory. Maybe you struggle with a sin, and think you’ll never be able to stop.
The truth is, we’ve already been given the victory. We just have to claim the promises.
I know, this might seem like a strange book for me to recommend to you. But it is powerful. I think you can truly realize your God-given identity, and find the victory you desire.
