Bible Study for Busy Moms
You wake up early, ready to face the day. You want a cup of coffee, a nice scone or muffin, and some quiet time with the Lord. But one thing after another happens. Before you know it, it’s 10am. Your coffee is cold, you haven’t eaten a bite and you’ve had no time for Bible study.
I get it. As Christians we want to prioritize our spiritual health. But as busy moms, sometimes we neglect it. And we may not even realize it’s happening.
We need daily Bible study and prayer
You know that feeling you get when it’s mid-afternoon and you realize you haven’t eaten all day? You feel weak and like you can’t focus. And then out comes groggy, grouchy mom.
It doesn’t take long to realize that your issue is that you’re hungry. Or hangry. Our bodies send us signals that say they need to eat. Soon.
But for some reason it takes us a little longer to realize when we need spiritual food. Oh, our spirits are telling us that they’re hungry. We just don’t recognize the signals.
When my thoughts turn negative, my spirit becomes critical and my words become harsh, I know my soul needs time with the Father. And if I don’t feed it what it needs, eventually it will become weak–just like a body that isn’t fed properly.
We don’t have time for Bible study
Knowing the need for quiet time with God, and actually finding time for it, are two different things. We know that our spirits desire daily time with our Heavenly Father.
But too often our days are so full of other things, we don’t know how to squeeze it in. As modern moms we believe we need to do all and be all the things.
Our social media feeds, inboxes and parenting magazines make us believe that everyone else has it all together. All the other moms are exercising for an hour in the morning, buying new wardrobes every season, cooking all their meals from scratch…living the perfect lives we wish we had.
The more we do and the harder we try, the less time we have for things that matter to us. And time reading our Bibles and praying are crossed off the list.
We don’t know how to study the Bible
If you’re like me, you aren’t sure where to get started. It would be great to spend hours of the day reading, writing verses and hearing God speak to our hearts. And there may be days when we do get to experience that.
But it does’t always happen that way.
We want every morning devotional time to be deep and meaningful. But even if they aren’t, our Father wants to spend time with us. And I do believe He understands if we can’t spend hours in reading and prayer.
The most important thing is that we spend some time daily with Him. There may be days when the kids sleep later and we can dive deeper. There may be mornings when we oversleep, and can only read a few verses before we have to start the days’ chores.
Take whatever time you have, and ask God to show you something special from His Word. Ask Him to give you the verses you need.
Verse of the day
I use the YouVersion app for reading and study. It includes a verse of the day. I can’t tell you how many times that one verse has spoken to my heart.
Short chapters
When my heart is feeling low, or when I need some encouragement, I love reading the Psalms. So many of them are short, but they’re so deep! David experienced so many highs and lows in his life, and I can always find something relatable in his writings.
Proverb a day
The book of Proverbs is perfect for reading a chapter each day. You can read through the entire book in one month. I’ve done this for several years, and I still learn something new every day.
Recorded Bible
Another way to fit Bible reading into a busy schedule is by listening to recordings. You can do this on YouVersion, also, but another great resource is this audio Bible. I grew up listening to these (on tape, believe it or not!) and I know they are a great way to involve kids in hearing the Bible, too.
How to begin your own Bible study routine
Even when you’ve made the decision to be more intentional about Bible study every day, it can still be difficult to know where to begin. If this is you, I highly recommend Asheritah Ciuciu’s book Bible and Breakfast: 31 Mornings with Jesus.
This book is a wonderful resource for busy moms who want to get serious about time with Jesus. A great way to incorporate devotions into your day, is to include it with something you already do–like eat breakfast!
Devotions for every day
Bible and Breakfast has thirty-one devotions, and thirty-one tasty, healthy breakfast recipes. My favorite part is that there are two options for every day. If you’re short on time one morning, you can “snack on the go” with a quick read and a thought to ponder during the day.
If you have more time, Asheritah invites you to “feast at the table” with a longer devotional, Scriptures to read and study and questions to answer. No matter which entry works best for your schedule, you have a Biblical foundation for every day.
Recipes to enjoy
Bible and Breakfast also contains a wide variety of recipes. And you don’t have to worry about trying to do them in order! Just pick and choose the ones that work for you.
There are some that are quick, and ready for an on-the-go morning, or can be made ahead. Examples include: Make-Ahead Breakfast Burritos, Marathon Chocolate Energy Bites, Good Morning Smoothies and Microwave Oatmeal Bowls.
If you have more time to sit down and enjoy a meal, there are recipes for that, too. Here are some of my favorites: Sheet Pan Morning Healthy Hash, Sunshine Waffles, Savory Bacon and Corn Pancakes and Quinoa Breakfast Bowls.
One of my goals for this year has been to eat healthier, and cut sugar. These recipes are all sugar-free, and good for you and your family! Many of the recipes are also kid-friendly.
Make the change
Adding time for consistent Bible study is hard. You have to really want it, and be intentional about getting it.
Ultimately, if it’s important to you, you’ll find the time. Make the changes necessary in your daily routine, and you’ll notice the difference in your spiritual health in no time!

Thanks for the encouragement! May I suggest reading the 5-day devotional series “Moms of the Bible”: https://amommaandherflock.com/loneliness-moms-of-the-bible-part-5/
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check it out.
