6 Books to Give Moms for Christmas
It’s Christmas shopping time, y’all! You know what that means. You use your limited budget to try to find gifts that show your friends and family how much you really care. It’s tough! If you’re like me, you want to give each person something uniquely for them, that shows you know them and hear them. But, alas, that limited budget does get in the way!
Books make great gifts! They are very budget-friendly, and are so personal. There are so many great choices, in so many genres, so many messages of hope, inspiration and encouragement. Your friends may not be voracious readers, and that’s okay. As long as you buy something on a topic you know they love, and it’s not 1,000 pages, books are great gifts.
I’ve read a lot of books this year–eighty-two at last count–so I think I can give you a pretty good idea what to buy! Here’s a list of books that I think are great for moms:
Coffee for Your Heart: 40 Mornings of Life-Changing Encouragement by Holley Gerth
Sometimes it’s hard to fit in devotion time in the mornings, but Coffee for Your Heart makes it much easier. And it’s so refreshing. The daily readings are short and sweet, and can be read in about the time it takes you to drink your morning coffee–or a little less, depending on how long you like to sip! Great gift for busy moms who could use some daily encouragement.
The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines
Do you have a friend who is obsessed with Fixer Upper or Chip and Jo? (Or maybe you are yourself!) This is a perfect gift for those friends. It’s really an amazing story about two people who started with nothing and through hard work and good investments made it all the way to the top. This book is so inspiring and a great read. (I bought the audio version, which is read by Chip and Joanna, and it is even more amazing!)
Grace, Not Perfection: Embracing Simplicity, Celebrating Joy by Emily Ley
Moms are always trying to push ourselves to do more and be better, but what if we gave ourselves grace to be less-than-perfect? Emily Ley is a mom to three and creator of The Simplified Planner, and she knows a thing or two about letting go of impossible expectations. In addition to being inspirational and encouraging, this book is truly beautiful! I read the Kindle version, and it was great, but the hardcover is even better. It’s such a bright, pretty color, (computer screens don’t to it justice!) and the layout inside is really awesome, too. Bonus: Emily has a new book out called A Simplified Life: Tactical Tools for Intentional Living. I haven’t read it, but I definitely want to, and I think it would probably make a good gift, too.
The Nesting Place: It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful by Myquillyn Smith
Most of the books that I’ve listed here are published pretty recently, but The Nesting Place came out in 2014. However, I just read it this year, and loved it. It’s great for people who want to decorate a pretty home, but don’t know where to start. Maybe they have small children, or pets, or are renting and don’t want to do anything too permanent. This book has great advice and ideas for making everyday things beautiful.
The Magic of Motherhood: The Good Stuff, the Hard Stuff, and Everything in Between by Ashlee Gadd
I have to admit that this is the one book on this list that I haven’t read. But I’ve seen some reviews, and I’ve done a “look inside” on Amazon, and it looks really good! It’s a book of essays about motherhood, written by mothers. There are essays about infertility, miscarriage, adoption, childbirth, and all the other parts of motherhood that make it the most wonderful, most challenging job in the world.
The Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves by Christy Wright
Do you know a mom who is trying to start her own side business? Or maybe she’s had a business for a few years and is looking to expand it? She needs this book! Christy Wright is a business genius, and she has all the advice women need to start and run a successful and profitable business. There is no better way to tell someone you believe in their dream than buying them this book!
At the time of this writing, all of these books are under $17 and most are under $15. Any of them would make a great gift for a mom, and none of them will blow your budget! Show someone you care this Christmas season–give them a book!
